Terrapin 5/SR sports racing car
This is the original works sports racing Terrapin as featured in Allan Staniforth's book, 'High Speed Low Cost'
It was built profesionally for for Chris Cramer to contest the 1970 British leaders hillclimb championship.
The vehicle has undergone an extensive 3 year restoration, with many many new parts including complete replacement of hydraulic braking system, fully re-built engine etc etc.
Only quality branded items used throughout.
The engine is extremely high spec BMC A-series 1293cc, Big valve head, 649 cam, 1.5 roller rockers, ultralight steel flywheel etc. The gearbox is fully straight cut 4 syncro, with 4.3cwp on a twin-pin diff, with straight cut drop gears,AP competition clutch and diaphragm. This has been subject to a full rebuild, receipts available.
Wherever possible the car has been kept as original, so as not to lose the historic character.
Brief spec is, original spaceframe chassis, stressed alloy panelled. BMC engine and box specification as per above, Alfin twin leading drum brakes all round with wilwood cylinders. Independant double wishbone suspension all round to the famous Staniforth geometry genius design. Revolution 4 spoke wheels with historic pattern Avon hillclimb tyres.
The car has a fascinating history, with a large amount of success, holding numerous class records in period, and being a factory supported demonstration platform for Allard, who were the UK agents for WADE superchargers.
Surely the cheapest way into historics with a genuine piece of British motorsport history.
The vehicle had an upgraded MSA compliant ROPS fitted some years ago. So fully complies with the current regulations. In addition, should the asking price be realised, I will include a brand new set of FIA hans compliant harness.
This is a reluctant sale, and I will only part with the car to a genuine enthusiast who wishes to get it out on track and use it! I've spent hundreds of hours to get this car back in a race ready condition and I don't want to see it split.
A one-off opportunity of an affordable historic race car.
