This is a near all original condition, Matchless G12 that has been owned by me for 28 years. As with all the late AMC machines it is fitted with Norton Roadholder forks and their full width hubs, the rear being QD.
Currently MoT to April 2018.
When I purchased, the machine had been laid-up in a leaky shed for 15 or so years previously. I then dismantled and rebuilt the engine and gearbox, dismantled and rebuilt the front forks, renewed the wheel rims and replaced the rotted silencers.
The remaining bright-work was re-chromed. The only disappointment is that the chrome on the new rims is now starting to show some flaking.
During the engine re-build, the piston rings and bearing shells were replaced, all of which are standard. Any other minor items were also replaced at this time.
The gearbox did not require any replacement items.
The paintwork, with the exception of the rear brake plate, is the original factory enamel that has withstood the elements remarkably well. The original seat cover has had a small split repaired.
Slight improvements I made during ownership is the provision of a halogen headlight, the twin leading shoe front brake, full flow spin-off oil filter, an anti-sumping valve that incorporates a ignition on/off switch, and the rear rack.
The battery is a new modern sealed unit type and the front tyre has just been replaced.
It is an easy starting, steady, and comfortable machine that I have enjoyed over the years, but as part of my machine collection reduction, it now has to go.
I doubt that there are many virtually original condition machines in existence so here is an opportunity to obtain something a little different.
