I've owned this Vermillion Orange Midget since March 2015 and enjoyed every one of the 3200 miles I've done in it. Unfortunately a job redundancy means it has to be sold.

The Midget passed its MoT a week ago, clean through with no advisories, so it's good for another year of fun (and many beyond that, I'm sure).

The MG is in lovely standard condition. It was heavily restored about 10 years (and several owners) ago, with lots of new structural parts and panels - hence the body-coloured sills. It has no rust anywhere on it worth mentioning. The sills (inner and outer), wheel arches, cockpit floors, bulkhead, boot floor, bonnet and door pillars are all rust-free.

The interior has no defects, although the centre console has gone missing at some point when a previous owner fitted some speakers. The seats are the standard ones, with no tears and all the stuffing is still there. There is nothing really in the way of 'gadgets' on a Midget but all the gauges, heater fan, wipers and lights work. The radio currently fitted did work but the head unit has packed up and I have disconnected the power feed to it. The aerial and speaker cables are all still there so a new head unit should give you a radio again.

The hood has splits in both the rear quarter windows but the rear window and the actual fabric is fine. The frame and all the fittings are in full working order, excect for one of the 'pop-studs' on the back has pulled out of the fabric.

The engine is the standard 1493cc Triumph motor. I've fitted an oil cooler and electronic ignition. A previous owner fitted the 'pancake' air filters. I had the carburettors rebuilt, balanced and tuned by Halls Garage - MG specialists in Bourne, Lincs - and it goes really well, pulling smoothly at low speeds and running right up to the red line if you want. Last year I had the radiator recored and the starter motor rebuilt. It holds in temperature perfectly, even in hot weather traffic and it starts instantly hot or cold. It has a brand new battery in it now, too. It has good oil pressure - 65 psi idling cold, a steady 45 psi when driving warm and 15-20psi idling hot. There is no freeplay in the crank pulley and no sign of problems in the thrust bearings or clutch (the big weakeness with the Triumph engine).

The only mechanical defect is the gearbox. The synchromesh on 3rd gear is very reluctant but the synchro on the other gears works fine. All the actual gears engage smoothly and there is no whine or rattles from the bearings. It's so easy to double de-clutch in a Midget anyway, and much more fun! The rear axle has almost no free play in it and runs almost silently.

The suspension is unmodified but in fine condition. All the dampers have had recent oil changes and are leak-free. The rear springs are free of rust and had new mounting bushes a couple of years ago. The front steering joints were renewed at the same time. What else is there to say - it all works and feels as it should on a Midget, and you can zip around in confidence.

Brakes - they are what they are on a Midget; standard set-up, nothing fancy and they work as they should, as does the handbrake.

All in all this a great little car I am very reluctantly selling. I've used it as a daily driver, a weekend fun toy, I've driven 200+ motorway miles in it and even done a couple of track days. It's brilliant. I hope it will be as good an introduction to classic MGs as it was for me and that it will bring someone else as much pleasure.
