1995 Volvo 940 2.4 Diesel D24Tic 6 cylinder Full MOT SOLD

   Volvo 940 2. 4 Diesel (D24Tic)(Manual)
This is the last one of my Volvo's, so although I could do with the space this is not a must sell.
My cars are like a personal collection ... not always necessary to sell quickly but if the right buyer comes along well lets just say it their lucky day!
This is a very practical and tidy Volvo 940 TDi.

All the good 940's seem to be going up in price so this is now a take it or leave it sale.

    Full MOT till August 2018
    Clean Sheet No Advisory's

  Something Different, Something Reliable with
No ECU's or Sensors watching Sensors.

You only need 3 things to make an engine work.
Spark, Fuel, Compression or with a Diesel: compression, fuel then that will give you the spark. Simple!
Yep, that’s it. There is no need for all this modern ECU's and Sensors watching Sensors, well Not in my Life!
These old engines will last a lifetime if looked after.

This is a long advert, go get a cuppa and read it through

Volkswagen D24TIC Engine fitted from New.

The Volvo D24TIC is a 2. 4-litre inline-six-cylinder single overhead camshaft diesel engine, formerly manufactured by Volkswagen Group from August 1986 to December 1995.

The engine is constructed in an identical manner to the Volkswagen D24T engine, and the earlier Volkswagen D24 engine - but the TDi includes an intercooler to aid its turbocharger in order to improve overall performance.

The car is originally an English car so hasn't spent its life up here in Scotland with salty roads during the winter,

You hear people saying that there is more salt used on the roads during the winter in Scotland than in England, but who knows if that's really the case as there are some pretty good cars up here in Scotland.

Anyway getting back to the Car, It's fine underneath,
This is a high mileage car by todays standards showing 216K on the clock, but when you divide that by it's 22 years it works out at 9, 840 miles a year which is just a little below average.

It's Just been serviced,............ Like all the cars I sell I will only sell a vehicle if it's roadworthy and reliable,
The engine was starting to use oil through worn valve guides and valve stem oil seals so It's had the cylinder head off and sorted.

Its now a reliable vehicle, not everybody's cup of tea as it's a bit different being an old fashioned direct injection Diesel, returning 35mpg around town and over 40 mpg on a motorway run and it will sit at 90 all day long and still return over 40 to the gallon on the Autobahn of course! The 940 was one of the biggest Estate Car sold in the UK in it's day with a huge cargo area when the rear seats are folded down.
Whats been done :

It's just had the cylinder head completely refurbished costing £500, It's had New valves, valve stem oil seals, New Hydraulic Lifters, the head's been pressure tested, new valve guides, a slight skim, new injectors and the fuel injector pump has just come back after being fully reconditioned costing £340.
New NGK Glow plugs fitted when rebuilt £38, obviously a new head gasket and new head bolts were fitted
I might add that the head is perfect between the valves with no cracking.

The cam belt and the injector pump belt have been replaced with New Belts so they should be good for at least another 50, 000 miles...... I have also changed the Idler bearing and the tensioner Bearing at the front of the engine with New items along with a New Water Pump..........................

Its had a new clutch kit last year , clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder so nothing to worry about in that department.
It's had new front Brake Calipers
New rear Shocks ( self Levelling )NOT Cheap items!
The Garrett turbo is also a relatively new item ( again Not Cheap )

Sorry no Main Dealer history with this car just receipts for the usual service items but I am always more interested in how it is now rather than how it was 10 years ago............. Having said that the MOT history shows nothing out of the ordinary, AND, It's just had a top end rebuild.

I would say over the years just the normal service items have been replaced when needed on this car, OIL, Filters, Brakes, etc, When I looked at the air filter in order to replace it, it was like new, like it had just been replaced the day before I checked it, You get the picture.

You can tell a lot about a car when you see that the oil, the filters etc have been changed and when you dip the dip stick you think there is no oil in the engine because it's that clean...................... Now how many cars do you find with oil that's that clean..........

It's a nice reassuring sight........

The speedo is reading 216, 500 which over it's lifetime is 9840 miles a year on average, nothing for one of these engines, .........................................

The headlining is good and NOT sagging like some I have seen. The Seats both back and front are all OK with NO marks or holes or cigarette burns on them.
The door cards are all OK with no wrinkling, its obviously come from a no smoking no pets home as it smells nice and fresh.
The top of the dash is perfect with no cracking from the sun.

The windscreen is free of cracks.

The carpets are in good condition and it has Volvo hard mats on the floor

The rear load area of the car is also nice and clean another indication that this car has not had a hard life.

There is a rear load cover in the back which will keep the rear floor clean. There is even the original Volvo Tool Kit with the original unused gloves, so that says to me since they have never been used it's never broken down.

The car does have a tow bar fitted an expensive one at that, a quick release one. The car itself does have the odd mark here and there commensurate with its age but nothing that detracts from the look of the car.

This car has a glass electric sun roof ( factory spec )
There is an internal cover or blind that you can pull over so no light shines in..............

.................................................. ......... Fuel wise it will return 35/ 36 MPG around town without trying............ more on a long run.. What else can I say except when was the last time you saw one on the road.. These are becoming very collectable nowadays especially as there are very little electronics on these cars so not much to go wrong................................................

No sensors watching sensors if you know what I mean, they are just a lovely drive around town and can hold their own on the motorway sitting at the legal limit all day long with the bonus of good fuel consumption......

The 6 cylinder engine is quiet at speed anything over 30 and you wouldn't know it was a diesel, she'll sit at 70 mph ( 3000rpm) very nicely and its nice and quiet, slow down to 25 or 30 to go through a village you can hear the burble of the straight 6 . Music to my ears.

All the Dash lights are working correctly and they all go out as they should. The engine fires up on the first turn of the key as long as you wait for the glow plug light to go out. (I always do!)

It's a 5 speed Manual, a better box than the 4 speed + overdrive, Priced at £4000 / it sound like a lot of money I hear you say, but where do you find another,
with everything in working order, a Full MOT and no advisory's, they are not around every street corner and chances are you'll need to spend very little on this one over the next few years.......... It's that good a car I will be using it as our third car, throw a few bags in the back and do a tip run on a Sunday, that sort of thing but everything has a price and this one is 4K

Are there any bad bits of bodywork?....... NO.
If there was it would be listed in the advert.

NO Holes, NO Rot, No Nothing just a solid old 940 2. 4 D24Tic

Yes you will find one or two that are cheaper than this that state in the advert Sold As Parts / or as a Project Due To it's Age, that probably means it's not that reliable, and needs a lot work doing on it!

I don't sell stuff like that! It's got to be right!
If it's not right I won't drive it and I certainly wouldn't sell it.
That's why this has had nearly £1000 spent on it.

They are cheap to run, very rarely break down, and easy to service unlike the modern cars that are around today.

These were the top of the range cars in their day....... and it's really Rolls Royce motoring for Fiat Panda money.

I would get into it and drive anywhere without a worry. Wouldn't do that in a new car as they are full of sensors watching sensors and ecu's waiting to die, or PDF Filters waiting to choke up and put you into limp mode.
I guess you have realized I have no time for all the modern cars that is on the roads today.

So there you have it a Volvo 940 that's as reliable as the day is long.
One thing they are good for is long distance cruising down the motorway, 70+ is no problem and they will sit there all day long and they are just as quiet as a petrol if not quieter

Have you heard the latest, Volvo will only be making Hybrid or Electric cars from 2019. More modern rubbish that will cost a small fortune to fix when it goes wrong, so these old reliable 940's be it Petrol or Diesel will be well worth hanging on to.............................

This car is North of the line in Ayrshire, Scotland

( 90 miles north of Carlisle )

as with most classics nowadays one sometimes has to travel if you want a good one, all I can say is that if you travel a long way to see this car you won't be disappointed.
More pictures of any area of the car are only a click away.          Feel free to Ask!.... Nothing to hide!
