2007 Road-Registered LS-Powered 2-seater Tuscan racer For Sale

The stuff you need to know – 500hp in a 1000Kg road-legal car!

So, I am putting my road-legal LS-powered Tuscan race car up for sale. This is a fairly well-known car that I have owned for 14 years and have done loads of track days and a few ‘speed’ competitions; plus it has put in an appearance at quite a few TVR events and car shows.

There is so much to list about the car (and so many cost-no-object parts) that it just won’t fit in an advert, so I’ve put together a PDF (running to over 20 pages!) with full details and photos of the car and everything else that’s up for sale. Drop me an email or give me a call and I’ll send a copy.

I did a ground-up rebuild from 2003-2006 with virtually everything either new or ‘refurnished as new’. This allowed the car to get through an SVA test, and VOSA/ DVLA deemed it a new TVR first registered in 2007; this means it is a one-owner car (me) on the V5C. The initial build was with a small-block Chevrolet, but after a series of mechanical ‘mishaps’ with the venerable iron block. I put in an aluminium block LS motor. This means loads of other new parts in 2013 to support the new motor with fuel injection, dry sump and an ECU. So it’s running a 6. 2 litre LS3, but I’ve made sure the mounts for the AJP remain unaltered. The engine was a new 2013 LS3 ‘crate motor’ upgraded with forged pistons, hotter cam, uprated valve springs, new pushrods and new bearings. The motor has been dry-sumped and runs a single large throttle body. When the CanEms ECU was mapped the car made 500. 6 BHP and 525ft/ lb on his dyno.

The fuelling system is all Aeromotive components and steel braided Teflon hoses with AN fittings; all new in 2013. The clutch and hydraulic release bearing were new Tilton competition items for the LS in 2013 together with the flywheel etc. The gearbox is a Tremec TKO600 with a custom Bailey-Morris propshaft to the BTR Hydratrak diff – refurbished and given a more suitable final drive ratio a few years back.

The car is finished in TVR Purple Pearl, the old factory race colour. It has the chassis, running gear and brakes from the race car with Penske shocks and is still fully rose-jointed; refurbished and powder coated silver during the rebuild. With the 2-seater conversion the chassis was modified and the roll-cage given an extra ‘hoop’ etc. The body is a carbon/ Kevlar lightweight tub and had loads of work done to clean-up all the panel gaps, remove all sharp edges for the SVA and add other road-legal touches, plus make a small ‘boot’ behind the seats. The seats are both Corbeau, recovered by Corbeau to match in black and purple.

It has the original Dymag wheels with Toyo R888s (with some decent tread left).

The car has a Pi System 2 data logger as the main dash, and a laptop with Pi Club Expert analysis software and licence. There is also a 12v trackside beacon.

There is a bolt-on hard top plus side windows, that I only ever use to keep the interior cry and clean when it’s being trailered (Tuscans should be driven open topped!), but I guess it could be driven as a closed car if the mood takes you.

The last time it was officially weighed it had me and all race gear, plus a full tank of fuel and it weighed 1157kg, so I’d guess around 1000Kg for the car ready to go in road-legal form with fluids etc. So pretty much spot-on 500 bhp/ tonne, which is pretty hard to find in a road car at any price! But not too hard to put on a diet if you quest for absolute lightness – passenger seat, second fire extinguisher, glass screen, hot/ cold air blowers, interior trim, heat mat, second battery etc would all shave pounds of the weight.

But this really is very much a track-focussed car; it is set-up to run track days and speed events. There are numerous in-car videos on YouTube posted by ‘tvrolet’. Most of the footage is from Knockhill, its regular hunting ground, but also some TVR footage from Oulton Park and Cadwell Park.

And as a real bonus for anyone thinking of the occasional ‘speed’ event or similar - being road-registered means it can be run with just a National ‘B’ non-race licence (just sign the form – no tests). With this level of power/ weight you would need a proper race licence if it wasn’t road-registered.

Sadly I’m just not getting the time now to run the car – I’ve only managed to find the time to get it on track a couple of times in the last 2 years. I started my own small business so I’m working all-hours to get it established; plus I’ve got back in to motorcycling so I’m out on the bike on nice days, not in the car.

So after 14 years it’s time to pass it on to someone else who wants a real ‘Challenge’ on track, and wants the attention this car brings at every TVR meet it turns up to!

Under separate negotiation I also have a Wessex Trailers 4-wheel trailer, 4 Compomotive wheels with slicks for track use, 3 spare Dymag wheels, spare Pi System 2 data logger, louvered panel for the exhaust, a couple of headlight covers and some other bits and pieces. But I need to sell the car first in case the buyer also wants any of the parts to go with it. Until the car has gone I won’t sell the parts; nor will I break the car even though the component values are worth far more than the asking price!

So as above, I’ve put together a PDF with everything about the car. Happy to send anyone a copy if they want – just drop me a line.
