1963 JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES I CONVERTIBLE 3.8 For Sale

1963 JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES I CONVERTIBLE 3. 8

- A fascinating early E-Type
- Semi Lightweight concept
- Full ground up restoration with photo documented file
- Fitted with desirable 5 speed gearbox as per original ’61 – ‘ 63 semi-lightweights

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE
This is an absolute amazing machine restored for a fortune to semi-lightweight specification. Since the ground up restoration which has been done in Germany, the car has not been used very often resulting in an amazing condition example of the iconic E-type.

The E-Type was unveiled in March of 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show, following the famous 11th hour disorder (one of the cars was driven to the show from England with just hours to spare). The car was an immediate sensation. It’s specification was state of the art, its bodywork arrestingly gorgeous, and the price surprisingly affordable. It embodied William Lyons’ values beautifully and it is no surprise that the E-Type has become such a legendary part of automotive history. The specification clearly demonstrated Jaguar’s racing experience and included semi-monocoque construction, independent suspension all around (at a time when Ferrari was still using live rear axles), disc brakes all around (inboard at the rear to reduce unsprung weight), and of course Jaguar’s legendary twin cam inline-6.

While widely regarded as one of the 1960s most elegant road cars, they proved to be immensely potent competition cars as well. In the Grand Touring class for production sports cars the E-Type proved competitive in-period right from the start, Graham Hill celebrating the model’s racing debut by winning at Oulton Park on April 3rd 1961. Relying on their nimble, lightweight nature, fully independent suspension, and highly aerodynamic body shape, E-Types made short work of much more powerful but less sophisticated cars such as the 289 Cobra, Corvettes, and Shelby GT350s, particularly on tighter tracks where handling and braking was the deciding factor.

This specific E-type has been restored with a wink to this special time whereby Jaguar was extremely successful in racing.
The car is restored to semi light-weight specification and the result is absolutely amazing.

Since the restoration, the Jaguar has only been used for dry runs and the car has been very well stored in a heated garage.

The underbody is as nice as it was when the car was just finished from restoration. It looks almost as new.
According to the production record trace certificate of the Jaguar Daimler Heritage trust, the E-type started life as a standard series I 3. 8 convertible, left hand drive and delivered in the color opalescent blue with a dark blue interior.

The car was dispatched at the 19th of June 1963 and was first owned by a mister or misses Flain from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, U. S. A.

CONDITION EXTERIOR

This E-type is absolutely 1 of a kind. The car is extremely beautiful restored and the lining of the car is absolutely superb due to the fact that the missing bumpers are not braking the lining of the car.

If someone would decide to install again bumpers, it is possible with a low cost but honestly this car is looking so nice without that we don’t advise to re-install the bumpers.

The fitting of the doors as well as the bonnet and boot are impeccable.
The chrome parts have been de-chromed which gives the car an extra impressive look.
The paint is essentially as new with a beautiful deep gloss and nice and period correct metallic.

The wheels are in as new shape without any signs of use and fitted with Michelin XVX tires.

The screen, door and headlight-surrounds have been exquisitely finished in a manner to be seen on the semi-lightweights, low-drag E-types and XJ13. It is gorgeous!

CONDITION INTERIOR

The interior of the Jaguar is in an exceptional condition. Actually the entire interior looks as new and has been completely restored as well.
The seats are covered with a wonderful cloth material and the back is from high quality leather.

The dashboard and tunnel are leatherette as per original ’61 – ’63 lightweights.

All meters have been overhauled and are all in perfect working order. The soft top is brand new and from a high quality and is fitting very well.

Small details such as the way how the inside mirror is installed show with how much attention this E-type is restored.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

When our photographer took the Jaguar he came back with an enormous smile on his face. This E-type was according to him an amazing example to drive with.
Easy to handle and very fast.

The engine which is fully restored is running extremely well. Furthermore the car is fitted with superb upgrades like an aluminium radiator, 123 ignition, adjustable sports dampers and sport springs, stainless steel exhaust system, chrome wired wheels with as new 215/ 70 VR15 Michelin XWX tires etc. etc.

Altogether this is an amazing looking and absolute superb driving car. Something very very special which has cost a fortune to restore and which is complete with detailed restoration pictures.
