FORD ESCORT MK I 2 DOOR 1.1. 2 OWNERS FROM NEW. SOLD (1974)
Announced in 1968 to replace the Anglia, the Escort soon became the UK's best selling car, with over two million sold by the time it was replaced by the MK II in 1975.
With it's distinctive front grille and swept 'coke bottle' flanks, the Escort MKI perfectly captured the clean 60's look and was widely admired. Mechanically it was conventional but effective, with rear wheel drive, precise rack and pinion steering, MacPherson strut front suspension and a simple live rear mounted axle mounted on leaf springs. It was initially available only as a two door with either 1.1 or 1.3 Kent Crossflow engines. Blessed with excellent handling characteristics, the MK I Escort went on to become one of the most successful rally cars of all time, remaining popular to this day within the now booming classic rally scene.
This particular 1974 Ford Escort 1100 two door car, was supplied new by Bristol Street Motors of Birmingham, to a lady from Somerset and was owned by her right up to 2016. The car then was purchased by the second owner who set about a full rebuild to bring the car back to it's original factory finish. The Escort has covered just 64,000 miles from new. The car is finished in it's original factory colour of 'Sahara' beige with 70's style brown interior. During the comprehensive restoration, the engine was also treated to a full rebuild. The car has done little if no mileage since the restoration and is ready to be shown and enjoyed.
To sum up here is your chance to acquire piece of retro Ford classic motoring with a known history from new.
