This sale is for a rare Lotus Elan +2 S130/5 Convertible, that has not been on the road since August 2000. The car was converted to cabriolet spec. by Christopher Neil Sportscars, well known Lotus dealers, in 1989, at a mileage of 44K and the history file indicates that the mileage now showing on the odometer of 51870 is correct. At the same time as the conversion, the car had a replacement exchange Lotus 5 speed gearbox fitted, indicating that the current gearbox fitted to the car has covered only 8K miles.
In 1994, the vehicle went into the renowned 'Daytune' of Cambridge to have a new clutch fitted, at a recorded mileage of 51445, and since then has barely turned a wheel, as the then owner went to work overseas. The vehicle was put into dry storage, working perfectly and MOT'D, returning periodically to the UK to give the car a run, oh, and to see family!
The car is fitted with a Lotus galvanised chassis and sill members, all of which are in good shape. The original MOHAIR hood is fitted to the car, which whilst a little faded, is in excellent condition.
I have had a close look round the body and am sure that the car has never been involved in an accident. A body restoration has been started with some of the paint being removed, but that is as far as it has got. The fibreglass is in excellent shape with none of the usual stress cracking and this is therefore a great opportunity to paint the car to a very high standard.
The front and especially the rear bumper, are original to the car, and actually fit the body. They will need to be rechromed. The stainless steel long side trims are present and in excellent condition.
The Big Valve motor, original to the car and therefore matching numbers, was started last year, but was reported to be running poorly. Hardly surprising, as there are no O rings on the carb misab plates! but with the motor having only covered 50K odd miles, it cannot take much to get it purring again.
The interior, as can be seen from the pics, is in very good condition, no rips or tears to the seats or upholstery. Original steering wheel fitted and even the ambient temp gauge works.
Should you be thinking that this car would make a great Zetec project, I would be prepared to remove the Twincam and 5 speed gearbox, and sell the car, less those components, with the V5, for £6995. The engine and gearbox would then be for sale. You would have the ONLY Lotus +2 Zetec Convertible in the WORLD!
