Full size paper cutting patterns are pasted onto just 4 sheets of exterior or marine plywood and 4 sheets of sheet aluminium. These shapes are simply cut out and assembled onto an unmodified Suzuki chassis using simple coach building methods. The Suzuki body which is secured with just 8 main bolts is removed and replaced with the Midge body.
The finished car only needs a standard MOT test and no IVA test is required.
Because of the decrease in body weight the Midge is very lively and exciting to drive with quick acceleration.
The wiring loom, instruments, pedals, steering column etc are all re-used. Even the spare wheel carrier and the door hinges!
After market parts such as brand new period headlights, sidelights etc can be found cheaply on eBay. The grille is from a black cab taxi and available both new and secondhand.
The car is literally amazing to drive.
You can view the car on eBay by searching JC MIDGE ROADSTER where you will also find links to view some action videos!
Why spend £30, 000 on a classic sports car that you daren't use every day come rain, shine or snow?
Because of a couple of simple suspension and exhaust 'tweaks' the Midge MK2 handles and sounds very authentic and offers a real taste of vintage sports motoring.
Because you make the body yourself for just £400 the whole car can cost less than £1500 to build -including the donor car!
The earlier MK1 Midges have achieved classic status and can fetch up to £8000 so the investment is also promising for the MK2 as once built it can only appreciate in value.
The full set of cutting patterns comprises of 19 full size (AO+)sheets and comes with full instructions and a comprehensive 'easy read' build manual that has clear colour photos of every detail at every stage of the build.
The construction is just like building a large model kit using basic hand tools and DIY skills.
The plan/ pattern set costs £99 plus carriage.
The build manual can be purchased separately for £10 if you wish to preview the build sequence before making a commitment.
Along with it's predecessor the MK2 Midge belongs to a thriving owners club. Just Google; 'Midge Owners and Builders Club' or just; 'MOBC'
Just like 'Specials' built in the 1950's and 1960's you can again build your own road legal special and taste vintage style motoring at a very affordable price.

HISTORY The JC Midge MK2 is a replica of the original Triumph based JC Midge MK1 that I designed back in 1984.
The cars were home built from plans and patterns.
These cars have now achieved classic status but IVA rules prevent the necessary Triumph chassis modifications that were essential to the build.
You can Google 'JC Midge' to see hundreds of these self built cars all over the World.
