1937 Buick Special 8 Opera Coupe -incredible time-warp car SOLD

Sold by Brookway Investments Ltd via Car and Classic Trade System

One of the most impressive US Automotive designs from the late 1930’s, this fabulous looking car was one of the first creations of legendary GM designer Harley Earl. The presence, build quality and style offered by Buick at this time was stunning and the Coupe's have gone down in history as being one of the true greats of the art-deco period.

Recently imported from Southern California, this car has lived in the Los Angeles area all it's life and has the most fabulous rust free and accident free body you could ever dream of. The underside is perfect and has never seen any welding or sheet metal repairs in it's 80 year history. The body is super straight, original and dent free and it's still wearing its original black coach laquer from 1937! This is a very rare find indeed and probably the most genuine unspoilt orginal to be found. The car has never been cosmetically restored so of course the paint is very old with numerous touch-ins. Bumpers are lovely straight originals with no dents and have never been re-chromed. This really is an incredibly original car and as we all know these cars are only original once.

In recent years the Buick has received a full mechanical restoration and has been sympathetically upgraded to enable reliability and successful participation in classic touring events. The original 248ci Dynaflash 'Straight 8' has been fully rebuilt with new pistons, bearings, valves, gaskets, seals etc and benefits from professional modifications including; 12volt conversion, Electronic ignition, Hi-Torque aluminium starter-motor, high output Alternator, Edelbrock 4 barrel carburetter, heated seats and a rev counter.

The car is off the button and totally reliable. The engine is whisper quiet and rattle free with no back pressure, oil or smoke. On the road the car is fast, powerful and smooth, and simply effortless to drive. The original 3 speed floor transmission is silky smooth with full synchro-mesh and a feather-lite judder-free clutch. The car furthermore benefits from a rebuilt axle, brakes and steering box. Few 1930's Yanks drive as good as a Buick 8, and this one is simply superb.

Completely original and unrestored with the exception of the seat which has been re-upholstered in the correct factory broad-cloth. Incredibly the car still has its original headlining and door cards with no rips or tears in very presentable condition. All gauges/instruments work correctly and the time clock has been sympathetically replaced with a period looking rev counter. Original ‘Banjo’ steering wheel is in fabulous condition.

All in all this is a wonderful unrepeatable car that really needs to be seen and driven to be appreciated. It was hand-picked by us on the ground in California and has never seen any UK wet weather or salt. If you are looking for a useable rare and stylish 1930's coupe this will be very hard to beat. Quite simply an incredible car that should be used and enjoyed for many years to come. This car really deserves to go to a good home.

Absolute bargain £19,995 sorry not looking for p/x.
