Ford Capri Mk1 GT 2L V4 in marine blue with gold pin stripes, vinyl roof and tan interior. Documented as built Sept 1972 registered March 1973. Six previous owners all known and listed by DVLA. 29,800 miles, detailed history, MOT June 2018, period radio. Laid up for many years though late 80s and 90s, she was recommissioned and restored 2006. Receipts for all that work is included.
I bought SGN in 2012 with a desire to make her one of the best driving Mk1 Capris. Originally an auto I converted to manual using a newly rebuilt T9 5-speed gearbox. Sourced a bellhousing which directly mates the gearbox to engine block then was blast cleaned and powder coated. No adaptor plates nor bodging here. New clutch assembly plus cable and Mk1 Capri pedal assembly. Manual propshaft rebuilt with all new joints, painted and balanced, quick shift gear lever.
The V4 Essex engine was comprehensively rebuilt with new KS pistons, rebore etc etc. All key moving parts were dynamically balanced. Both heads fully rebuilt. Engine and heads were cleaned and painted in blue. The Weber DFV carb was rebuilt and a new K&N filter fitted. New high torque starter motor, alternator and uprated battery fitted. A pair of NOS tubular exhaust manifolds were blast cleaned and painted in silver high temp paint.
To enhance the steering, I decided to go PAS and fitted a rebuilt hydraulic rack from a 3L Capri. The existing V4 cross member was modified to accept the PAS rack and was also powder coated. With nowhere to mount a pump, I chose a Mk4 Astra electric pump and bought a brand new one. It is mounted next to the rad in the OS engine bay. Hydraulic pipes and electrics made and fitted. Lower control arms and front new bushes, new brake discs, bearings etc all done as well.
A new set of alloy wheels and tyres were put on all round. No wobbles nor brake shake, she drives smooth and straight.
The last part of the driving set-up was to fit more comfortable and supportive seats. Excellent condition Alfa 156 tan leather seats were fitted and they are an almost perfect match to the rest of the great interior and look made for the car. The result now is a Mk1 Capri that not only looks great, but is also very comfortable and a joy to drive.
RS twin headlamp upgrade using original aluminium bezels. The last MOT had a couple of advisories so these were addressed recently by fitting new front dampers and F-R brake pipe. At the same time, the underbody being very solid was prepped and protected again with Dynax S50 wax ready for the winter roads.
Loads of other work items have been done to the Capri over the years and there are bills and receipts which detail all this. I have numerous photos of all the work I’ve done referred above which can be provided on a memory stick. Also a few from a previous owner post restoration.
The paint work is very good and shines up well. She’s not concourse so expect a few cosmetic bits here and there. All things considered, I’m sure you’ll appreciate how much money has been lavished on this car, way beyond the selling price.
