About the Golf C Diesel
The Volkswagen Golf was an iconic breakthrough vehicle in the late 70's. Following the success of the water-cooled petrol engine, the diesel example was released in late 1976. A more practical alternative, the naturally-aspirated in line four cylinder engine returned a top speed of 89 mph, with a more economical average fuel consumption of 42 mpg.
This 1982 example has been fully recommissioned and is in fantastic condition, exactly as it would have been when on the road 35 years ago. The 'Lido Green' paint finishes the car brilliantly and gives it the retro feel it you would want from a classic Volkswagen.
The vehicle has a manual gear box and features the original black dashboard, steering wheel and grey cloth seats. The interior is as you would expect of an 80's car and the simplistic angular components add to the overall quirky character. The interior is still in the process of preparation and more photos will be coming soon.
Although the service book is in a weathered condition, it is original and displays the dealer stamp and subsequent main dealer services up to 15,700 miles. There are also tax discs from over twenty years ago and the V5C from 1983. The vehicle has been stored inside for almost twenty years and has had only one previous owner before this.
This Mk1 has been preserved well and has now been revived back to its former beauty. We have replaced many of the mechanical components, including the front and rear brakes, timing belt, waterpump, CV boots and a full service has been completed including oil change, oil filter, air filter and fuel filter. Not only a more economical alternative to the petrol engine, it is also very rare to come across a diesel in this condition and is a great, fun investment!
