RHD UK delivered in November 1957, now with 146,950 miles
It is believed only 56 RHD cabriolet examples were produced, Chassis number 150021, Ivory bodywork, with black interior, beige carpets and black hood. It is a very 'correct' car.
Amazingly this 356 has provenance to dream of. From the original buff coloured 'log book' through to the present day, the documentation covers the extensive and very high quality restoration carried out over a five year period, through its return to the road in 1991 and onwards to today.
Ordered new for UK right hand drive delivery, it came with a gloss black factory hard-top (and soft top) which remains with the car. The first owner, head of a wealthy Greek shipping family company living in London W1 kept this car (we believe for his wife) for the first three years. Between 1961 and the end of 1969 she had a further three keepers until ending up at a garage presumably as a trade in. In 1974 via a relative of the second last owner, the car was purchased and remained untouched until restoration was commenced in the 80's.
The body was entrusted to a well known (at the time) 356 expert Ernie Gregory who you can see, from photographs and invoices made an exacting and extensive body restoration. That restoration was exceptionally thorough and has stood the test of time well. This was certainly not a 'quick fix', nor a cheap fix.....it appears to be over £40,000, a considerable sum of money in the early 90's. The paper trail suggesting the restoration started in mid 1985 and continued on until the car was recommissioned for the road in September 1993 where the MOT history begins.
The current owner, number 6, purchased the car in July 2005. For over 20 years, the car has been known to our own 356 expert Graham Kidd who has carried out maintenance on it within this time frame. Graham has experience of more than 200 356 restorations throughout his career, we very much value his opinion. He acknowledges that a very fine job was carried out, this was exposed when Graham made a colour change from light blue, back to the original Ivory about 10 years ago. Graham is available to discuss the details should you wish.
It is a lovely drive, running sweetly and feeling good on the road. Unlike at the auctions, you can come, inspect and test drive this 356, we have nothing to hide. It has enjoyed various adventures across Europe and is well suited to more .
It is, as you will acknowledge, very unusual to find a Porsche with provenance like this, let alone a right hand drive 356.
