1958 Austin A55 For Sale

1958 Austin Cambridge A55

Registered in North Wales on the 5thof November 1958 and still carrying its original registration number. FJC 720 has obviously been well cared for over the last 60 years. And although not a show car, she is certainly very clean, solid and tidy. What’s also nice is that she has only had 1 owner since 1988 so the previous owners pride and joy. So onto the condition, warts and all but please feel free to come and view or contact me with any questions.

Bodywork
The Austin is very solid and although she has obviously had some paint over the years, the panels are very solid and only showing some isolated minor repairs, which I’m guessing, have been done many years ago. There is a scratch on nearside rear door and some paint damage to the driver’s door edge. There is also a small section of corrosion at the base of the off side front lower panel. I’ve not attempted to tidy anything up but will scan the colour and touch up in due course. Wings are all solid, especially in the areas, which are common corrosion points on these models. Underside is good and has been under -sealed, which again is common for a 60-year-old car. Overall the body is very neat and tidy, certainly perfectly presentable in its current form.

Bright work
The bright work is of course getting tired and chrome in the early 50’s was of poor quality so it doesn’t last as well as cars from the later periods.

Interior
The headliner is very good; the carpets are tired and very worn at the front, however these are quite cheap at a £160 for a set. The leather is also tidy, however the foam in the front seats has turned to dust and so the bases have dropped. I may be able to improve on this so will look at these later in the weeks. The instruments work well and the door cards are in excellent condition. Overall the interior is presentable and a new set of carpets would transform the cabin.

Mechanicals
The Austin starts very easily and runs very sweet with no unusual knocks, rattlers or smoke. The gearbox appears to be good and this particular car has the 4-speed floor change, something that was quite rare on these models. I’m assuming an option back in 1958. The foot brake is rubbish so we will address this, its going to be needed for the MOT anyway. I’m aware that the car will be exempt from May but I prefer to supply our cars with 12 months test regardless

Therefore as part of sale and included in the sale price, I will be undertaking the following works.

1. Brakes
2. MOT
3. Front screen rubber
4. Service
5. Body paint touch up
6. Front screen rubber

History
The car comes with a pile of old MOT’s; both new and buff log books, workshop manuals and some old invoices. The mileage is showing 88716, which appears to be original.

Summary
FJC 720 is a really tidy and presentable late 50’s Austin which drives well and could be used on a regular basis without the cost of having to fully restore or spend large amounts on making it roadworthy. She is complete and with a few tweaks here and there, she would certainly give her next owner reliable service.

Finally, the price is set at a fair figure, whilst also taking into account the list of jobs I will be doing as part of the sale. A deposit is required at the end of sale with the balance due on or before day of collection. Transport can also be arranged a reasonable cost if required.

Here for sale is my beautiful 1976 mini van. It has just been through a very comprehensive 12 Month restoration, leaving no nut, bolt or screw unturned.
